God is so Great.

My friend Adrienne who is in the process of adopting a set of siblings from Liberia told me a story last week that I'd like to share with you dear reader.

There once was a girl named Gift. While her country was in the midst of a civil war she saw her parents killed. Her siblings and she made a humble home for themselves near the U.S. Embassy for safety. One day as gift left to pick up some food for her family, Gift watched as her home and her siblings were killed. At the very moment Gift saw her home obliterated, a Chicago Tribune reporter captured a picture of Gift in agony at what she was witnessing. Having nowhere else to go, Gift was forced into slavery. Meanwhile in the United States a woman by the name of Judy Bender having read the Chicago Tribune article felt inspired to adopt Gift. After the many months of arrangements Gift was finally on her way to a new home. Here was a girl. She lost everything. She watched her entire family die in front of her eyes. She had every reason to be hateful and bitter. And yet, as Judy and Gift took off in the airplane, Gift noticed the clouds in the sky and said to her new mother, "What are those?" Judy replied, "They're clouds, Gift." To which Gift replied, "Mom, God is so Great."

Today I looked at one lone Tulip plant in the midst of my flower beds. It was beautiful. And all I could think of was Gift and her simple declaration. God is so Great.

I love that story, how moving. Thanks for sharing it. It's an incredible reminder of what we have and yes, how great God is.
