The Year 2033
Dear Hailey,
You have a six year old and she is lovely, but it's been one of those weeks. A few words of advice from your old mamma regarding your daughter...
When she jumps from the top of your two year old's toddler bed and snaps it in two, try to keep in mind that she was doing it to make the little one laugh. She didn't know it would break. Help her learn accountability, certainly. But after the lesson is over, laugh with her.
When she asks to help with dinner, say yes. If you don't, later you'll be washing the dishes alone, after she's in bed and in your solitude you will wish that you had the memory of making that food together.
When you hear an unfamiliar fountain like sound and upon investigation find that water is pouring out of the ceiling into your basement from the bathroom upstairs, then see that it is because the six-year old has plugged the sink to play mermaids, gotten distracted and let it run for at least two hours, try your best to remember that she got distracted because she wanted to be with you in the kitchen. Don't swear and don't leave her alone for two hours! One hour, understandable, but not two. Go to her as soon as you get a grip. Houses are easier repaired than are six-year old hearts.
Hailey, my sweet girl, I wish that I had loved you with more patience. May you learn from my missteps.

Such a sweet letter to your daughter to read. It is a lesson well learned early in raising children so there are no regrets after they are married and it's all gone.

If only the excitement of the week ended there! Tonight, in honor of Hailey, we had a FHE devoted to "when to call 911"...Good thing she has such a great heart!
